Did you miss out on having a special Shabbat service when you came of B'nei Mitzvah age? Did you choose Judaism as an adult? Whether you are a bat, a ben or l’bnei, here is your chance!
A b'nei mitzvah class is now in formation. The class will be taught by Rabbi Robin Podolsky. The class will run weekly for eight months. The first and last meetings will be in-person (with a Zoom option for those who cannot make it) and the other classes will meet online. Students will learn basic Hebrew reading and Torah chanting (the class will culminate on a Shabbat morning during which all who complete the class will read directly from the Torah scroll!);
In addition to Hebrew, the class will cover key Jewish texts and thinkers, both ancient and contemporary; the Jewish year, month and week; and daily Jewish practice including prayers, blessings and food (including a challah-baking session!). There will be ample space for students to reflect on their personal Jewish journey and build community with one another.
Students will also be asked to purchase a Hebrew textbook and dictionary and encouraged to acquire tallitot and kippot of their own.
