Shabbat Holiness Hike
with Rabbi Levy

Take a break from the craziness of the week and join Rabbi Levy for a Shabbat afternoon hike! We will explore some of the great natural settings around the LA area while creating spaces for quiet reflection and a bit of text study. This month, we'll take a stroll along the LA River and learn about the vision behind its construction with congregant Mark Cohen.

The hike will go from 2:30 - 5:30 PM, after which we'll head over to Mark and Tim's house for afternoon refreshments. Address to be sent upon registration.

The Women's March Foundation
for "Bigger than Roe"

Women's March Foundation is hosting an event on Sunday, January 22nd, in Los Angeles. January 22nd is significant because it would've been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and is also part of the nationwide day of action: Bigger than Roe.

We will be hosting a screening of HBO's documentary The Janes, which will be followed by a town hall discussion with national leaders and pro-choice advocates who are leading the fight to protect reproductive freedoms for all women across our nation.

We are grateful for your partnership and would love for you to promote it across your networks and on social media! We are still looking for speakers to be part of our panel, so please let us know if you have anyone who has been active in the fight for reproductive rights and would be interested.

Calling All Spielers!
Come one, come all to this year's Purim Spiel!

Join us for a fantastic, laid-back "Surfin' Safari" Beach Boys Purim on Sunday night, March 5, 2023 at Kol Ami!! (more details to follow). Along with Megillah reading and a delicious Mediterranean dinner, we'll be doing a special retelling of the Purim story featuring the music of the Beach Boys in Beach Boychiks: A Beach Boys Purim.

Who's ready to dip their toes in the sand and be a part of this amazing production? If you are interested in participating in any way (singing, acting, choreography, set design, makeup, etc.), please contact Rabbi Levy at rlevy@kol-ami.org

Rehearsals are every Sunday afternoon during the month of February.

This past weekend for our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day project, the Tzedek Council of Kol Ami, in support of the Hollywood Food Coalition, assembled 500 lunch bags. These lunch bags help supply the coalition's Sunday lunch distribution program. Thank you to everyone who volunteered!

The LA County Department of Health is recommending wearing a mask indoors. While they have not yet required it, in recent weeks there has
been a significant uptick in COVID-19 cases in LA County combined with a significant flu outbreak and Respiratory Virus.

LA County is experiencing high rates of COVID-19, flu, and RSV. These three respiratory illnesses can all cause severe illness. Until respiratory illness rates decline, everyone ages 2 and older is now advised to wear a mask in indoor public spaces to both protect workers and avoid getting sick and spreading these viruses this winter and holiday season. Indoor public places include public transportation and transit hubs, retail stores, event venues, schools, and worksites when around others.

Kol Ami's Code of Ethics

Congregation Kol Ami has adopted a Code of Ethics as a holy, respectful, mindful and safe way of interacting with one another. We join with other Reform Jewish communities dedicated to creating safe and sacred spaces. The Code of Ethics was created by a working Task force of our Board of Trustees, adopted by our Board and subsequently adopted by the congregation at our Annual meeting in June, 2022.

Reminder: COVID-safety Protocol

Kol Ami requires proof of vaccination including at least one booster for all events for all those eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine. If you are not yet eligible for a booster, you must provide proof a negative test within 24 hrs of the event.
While masks are optional at indoor events the Los Angeles County Health Department strongly recommends that you wear a mask indoors. At Kol Ami we are mindful that there are many people who are immune compromised and as an act of loving kindness (Chesed) and compassion (Rachamim) we recommend you wear a mask except when eating or drinking indoors.
