Additional High Holy Day Activities:

SELICHOT - Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 6 PM

Selichot, meaning forgiveness, is the evening we begin to prepare spiritually for the Days of Awe. We will be hosting an afternoon BBQ and enjoying actor and playwright, Tom Dugan's performance of excerpts from his original one-man show, "Wiesenthal." Simon Wiesenthal's popular image was of an relentless Nazi-hunter who was determined to bring to justice the perpetrators of the Holocaust. Guided by an unwavering moral code, Wiesenthal insisted that individuals, never groups or nations, must be held to account for their actions. He objected against the concepts of collective guilt, collective punishment and collective forgiveness: post-Holocaust generations had to be convinced that individuals must bear the responsibility for guarding against the revival of neo-Nazism and fascism. Dugan's portrayal is full of wit, stoicism, heartbreak and purpose. The story Dugan tells is inspiring and challenging, asking us deep questions about guilt, justice and our role in carrying on Wiesenthal's mission.
