Transgender Remembrance Shabbat

 

Join us for our annual Shabbat obeserving Transgender Day of Remembrance with special guest speaker Eli Mendelson and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles! Friday, November 16 ta 8:00pm here at Kol Ami.

 

Elias "Eli" Mendelson has been in the fundraising industry for 20 years and has worked at City of Hope (COH) in the Philanthropy department for the last five years. He is the volunteer chair of Pride in the City, COH's employee diversity resource group. In March 2017, with COH's Diversity & Inclusion Office, he became the first employee to publicly go through a gender transition on the job. Eli grew up in a Conservative synagogue in Boston's south shore area, and spent many years as a part time tutor nicknamed "The Hebrew Navigator" teaching hundreds of children how to read, pray, and prepare for their B'nai Mitzvot. Eli spent 15 years in Chicago after graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst before happily moving to sunny and warm California five years ago. He is a member the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center and shares his life with beautiful girlfriend Tristan, a mutt named Moxie and a chihuahua properly named Sir Bodhi, Duke of Everything.
